Other Types of Energy

Although solar and wind may be front of mind when you think about renewable energy, our industry is always looking at innovation and alternative forms of energy that are low emission.

Take, for example, hydrogen. Hydrogen is one of the cleanest fuels that can be used to produce energy, and when produced by renewable energy hydrogen has the capacity to be a zero-emissions fuel source. Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) are currently investigating development of a green hydrogen plant, powered entirely by renewable energy. This plant has the potential to be one of the world’s largest green hydrogen plants.

Another source of renewable energy is nuclear energy. Nuclear power is a clean and efficient way of boiling water to make steam, which turns turbines to produce electricity. Nuclear energy supplies about 10 percent of the world’s electricity

Nuclear power plants use low-enriched uranium fuel to produce electricity through a process called fission. Uranium is one of the world’s most abundant metals, the largest resources of low-cost uranium can be found right here in Australia.

Nuclear power offers many benefits for the environment as well. Power plants don’t burn any materials so they produce no combustion by-products. Additionally, because they don’t produce greenhouse gases, nuclear plants help protect air quality and mitigate climate change.

Climate Change

Climate change is real, that’s why our industry is focused on doing our part to reduce emissions…

Clean Energy

Energy Sources

There are a lot of places we can source clean energy. Solar, wind, water are just a few sources of energy…

Land & Water

Mining operations in Australia occur on land we share with plants, animals, people and industries….
